The Surf Ski Tour

If you love to kayak, like surfing (or just the idea of surfing) and would like to try something a little racier than our 3 hour surf ski tour is the one for you. For those unfamiliar with Surfski’s: They range from 14ft to 20ft and are lean, glamorous kayaks. Surfski heritage comes from the Surf Lifesaving movement in Australia, and the roots of surfski racing is found in long distance ocean paddling. Ocean surfski racers thrive on big waves and top racers can push a boat’s speed up to 25+km/hour.

Surfski paddling can be practiced on any body of water and in any conditions: on oceans, rivers or lakes; in high winds, no wind, high surf/

waves and no waves; on flat or flowing water and through rapids.
Finally, surfskiing is a sport that blends the three elements of adventure, fitness and competition into a fantastic mix.
It is on the “extreme” end of paddle sports, Sea Kayak Salcombe “extreme aim” is directly correlated to the fun and excitement of trying
something new (and sliding down waves)!

Worth noting: Surfski paddlers tend do get wet! All paddlers will be taught the very basics in surf ski before we search for the swell…

Typical day starts at 0945 and ends approximately at 1600. These kayak trips are our most popular tours for a variety of reasons. The convenient location, perfect length of time, affordable prices, and diverse departure times all add up to a great day of sea kayaking in South Devon.

For your comfort and security we custom fit you to your sea kayak so make it comfortable for you and make entering and exiting our kayaks almost effortless. The first few minutes of this kayak tour are spent teaching you some techniques in the bay of South Sands. This allows folks who have never been sea kayaking before to settle in and get comfortable in the kayak.

Most full day tours cover the South Devon coast line, taking in bays like the beautiful Soar mill and Ellender cove, Hope cove, Lanacombe, Prawle Point, Thurlestone and Bantham beaches.

There is something new around every corner on this kayaking tour. Our knowledgeable kayak guides are always on the lookout for seals, birds of prey, porpoise, and sometimes basking sharks -vegetarians, don’t worry!

Although we pride ourselves on not making unreasonable claims in regards to sea kayaking with the wild life we hope you all realise some days it’s very quiet out there, which is amazing anyway we believe.

Every day is different, but one thing is certain, you will enjoy your experience of kayaking in one of the most outstanding places in the UK.
